Energy Specialist (HI-CAS)
ICIMOD seeks an Energy Specialist for its HI-CAS project to lead renewable energy-powered water pumping solutions, integrate GESI principles, and support climate adaptation in Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is hiring an Energy Specialist for the Integrated Climate Adaptation Solutions for the Hindu Kush Himalaya Region (HI-CAS) project. This role will lead renewable energy-powered water pumping solutions, ensuring they are Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) responsive and aligned with feminist approaches.
The position involves technical leadership, policy engagement, capacity building, and knowledge sharing to support climate-resilient livelihoods in Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. The Energy Specialist will work closely with government agencies, Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities (IPLCs), and project partners to deliver impactful, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership for RE-powered water pumping projects, ensuring integration of GESI and feminist principles.
• Develop guidelines, tools, and feasibility studies for context-specific RE solutions.
• Coordinate with partners to design and implement tailored renewable energy interventions.
• Lead policy engagement with government agencies to support evidence-based reforms.
• Produce knowledge products such as case studies, sector assessments, and policy briefs.
• Conduct research to identify and address barriers to scaling RE-powered irrigation systems.
• Monitor and evaluate project outcomes against goals and targets.
• Design and deliver training, workshops, and stakeholder consultations.
• Prepare technical reports, investment cases, and funding proposals.
• Support event organization, case study documentation, and knowledge dissemination.
Eligibility to apply
Education:
• Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Management, and Engineering, or MTech in Renewable Energy.
Experience:
• At least 7 years in leadership or coordination roles related to renewable energy.
• Expertise in policy engagement, technical design, and scaling renewable energy solutions.
• Experience in solar-powered water pumping in rural and off-grid settings.
• Experience in multi-country project implementation, preferably in South Asia.
• Familiarity with GESI-responsive programming and IPLC engagement.
Skills Required:
• Strong technical expertise in renewable energy systems
• Policy engagement and advocacy skills
• Project planning, monitoring, and evaluation
• Excellent communication and report writing in English
• Collaboration and teamwork in multicultural settings
Preferred Knowledge:
• Proposal writing and fundraising experience
• Understanding of RE financing models, carbon markets, and clean energy incentives
• Ability to translate technical content into policy recommendations
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and solar design software
• Experience with international development organizations or donors

Salary
• USD 34,062 annually (gross salary, includes basic salary, allowances, and benefits)
