Agriculture has long shaped Nepal’s identity, with over 67% of the population still relying on it for their livelihood, according to the National Sample Census of Agriculture Nepal 2021/22. Yet, most farmers continue to use traditional methods, facing challenges ranging from climate change to limited market access.
Today, agri-tech startups are bridging this gap by blending local knowledge with technology. These innovators are helping farmers get timely weather forecasts, track market prices, access expert advice, and sell their products directly to buyers. As technology enters the fields, a new chapter of smarter, more sustainable farming is emerging.

Smart Krishi was founded by Anil Regmi in 2017 and operates as an Information and communication technology (ICT) powered agri‑tech platform based in Kathmandu. It aims to give farmers unified access to advisory services and market channels.

Smart Krishi’s agri-tech app and web portal provide crop guidance, step-by-step farming videos, government notices, and agro-news in Nepali. Farmers receive targeted content tailored to their local crops and needs.
By integrating spatial tools and digital modules, the platform empowers smallholders across Nepal to adopt sustainable practices, enhance crop yields, and connect them with buyers and accurate market information.
ICT For Agri (IFA Krishi) is a youth-led social enterprise that was launched in partnership with the US Embassy in 2016. It delivers weather forecasts, price alerts, and crop advisories via SMS and app.

IFA Krishi uses its “Krishi Guru” system to connect farmers with extension agencies, input suppliers, market traders, and agronomists. Through agri-tech-enabled SMS and mobile updates, it provides climate-smart crop guidance, daily market rates, and risk mitigation tips. By doing so, it helps farmers improve yields, manage uncertainty, and access better markets.
Super Krishak is a digital agri-tech app developed by Gham Power Nepal in 2022 to support smallholder farmers through training, smart tools, and market access.

The app offers virtual training, daily quizzes, crop diagnostics, soil testing, satellite monitoring, and real-time market prices. The “Krishak Sanjal” feature connects farmers with experts for timely advice, while AI tools help detect pests and diseases across more than 50 crops.
With a user-friendly interface and growing features like gamification and weather alerts, Super Krishak helps farmers boost productivity, reduce risks, and adopt smarter, more informed farming practices.
Ficus Biotech was founded in 2013 in Kathmandu by Santosh Dahal and partners, using plant tissue culture to supply disease‑free saplings.

Through advanced agri-tech tissue culture, Ficus Biotech produces healthy saplings of banana, bamboo, Paulownia, potato, and other plants.
Farmers benefit from scientifically bred planting materials, which improve yields and minimize disease risk. The company also provides after‑sales support, soil surveys, and on‑site guidance. It plans to expand into agrochemicals and seed lines to offer full agri-tech services.
Green Growth Group is based in Kathmandu and was established around 2022. It is an agri-tech-oriented food tech company that promotes locally produced organic crops through technology-enabled direct sales.

Green Growth leverages agri-tech and digital platforms to connect 14+ organic farms with consumers. Customers order through the website or social media and receive seasonal baskets of vegetables, fruits, lentils, and more. The startup hosts awareness events and tracking systems that help farmers command fair prices and produce sustainably.
Freshktm was established in 2020 by a visionary group of young entrepreneurs. It is Nepal’s first integrated fresh produce supply chain.

The agri-tech platform directly connects over 5,000 farmers with consumers, controlling the entire process from planting to retail. Farmers receive on-field support, instant payments, and are encouraged to follow low-residue farming practices.
Through practices like drip irrigation, on-site composting, and agro-livestock integration, Freshktm promotes sustainability, food safety, and transparency. Customers can trace the origin of their goods, making the system beneficial for both farmers and buyers.
Mandala Agrifresh is a post-harvest management company focused on reducing food loss and waste in fresh fruits and vegetables. The agri-tech firm works closely with farmers, traders, and retailers to improve supply chain outcomes.

They offer affordable and effective solutions to preserve produce and extend shelf life through improved post-harvest technologies, empower stakeholders with consulting and capacity-building, and expand market access into new areas.
The startup’s work addresses the gap between farm gate and retail prices, aligning with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting equitable access, reducing waste, and improving food availability.
GeoKrishi is an agri-tech platform designed to provide farmers with timely, location-specific advice that enhances productivity and profitability. It combines mobile and web tools to deliver weather updates, market prices, crop planning, and customized guidance based on geotagged farms.

This agri-tech startup designs and deploys advanced hydroponic and aeroponic systems tailored for sustainable farming, offering smart solutions that improve resource efficiency and help modernize agricultural practices.
With strong local engineering expertise, Thoplo Machines empowers urban and controlled-environment agriculture by combining innovative design, environmental sustainability, and practical IoT integration.
PlantSat was developed by Seed Innovations Pvt. Ltd. and launched in 2019. It is Nepal’s pioneering climate‑insurtech startup, digitizing crop and livestock insurance.

The agri-tech platform leverages satellite data, weather analytics, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) to provide remote risk assessment, streamlined claims processing, and precision decision support for both farmers and insurance providers. By reducing operational costs and moral hazards, claims show insurers can save up to 25–30%.
PlantSat also delivers insights, including crop health, nitrogen and moisture tracking, and seven-day weather forecasts, via an accessible mobile app.
