Programme Assistant

FAO Nepal is hiring a Programme Assistant to support project planning, coordination, data handling, reporting, and communication.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Nepal is looking for a Programme Assistant to support its work in Kathmandu. This position helps in planning and carrying out different parts of FAO’s projects, including document preparation, data entry, event organization, and communication with stakeholders.

The assistant will ensure smooth operations by helping with reports, field visits, meetings, and coordination efforts aligned with FAO’s strategic goals and Nepal’s agricultural priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare project proposals, reports, and background papers
• Collect and organize data to support project reporting
• Format and proofread official documents and correspondence
• Respond to basic inquiries and forward communication as needed
• Help arrange meetings, field missions, and consultations
• Maintain records and manage files using FAO systems
• Track project progress, inputs, and timelines
• Support internal coordination and communications
• Draft documents, track schedules, and follow up with partners
• Assist the Programme team with administrative tasks
• Carry out other duties as assigned

Eligibility to apply

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Administration, Agriculture, Economics, International Development, or a related field

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in project or program support
• Experience with United Nations (UN) agencies, international or national non-governmental organizations (I/NGOs), or donor-funded projects is preferred

Skills Required:

• Communication and stakeholder coordination
• Project documentation and reporting
• Administrative and logistical support
• Strong attention to detail
• Time management and multitasking
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
• Data entry and analysis
• Bilingual in English and Nepali

Preferred Knowledge:

• Familiarity with FAO systems (COIN, FPMIS, GRMS)
• Understanding of Nepal’s agricultural development priorities
• Knowledge of FAO’s Country Programming Framework (CPF)
• Experience with UN procedures and technical writing
