Kathmandu, Nepal

Despite budgetary limitations, the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre has promised to keep offering free cardiac therapy to underprivileged kids under 15 years of age.

During a recent board meeting, Minister for Health Pradip Paudel made the decision to raise more money from donors, local governments, and internal resources. The government spends NRs 120 million a year on 500 procedures, meanwhile, there are more than 1,000 cases.

Officials guarantee that no kid will be refused care, despite the fact that some families were previously charged due to financial constraints. Since its inception in 2016/17, the program has had difficulties due to the increase in medical expenses.

The hospital provides free treatment for valvuloplasty, rheumatic heart disease, and geriatric patients in addition to pediatric care. Ongoing efforts are being made to maintain and get funds for life-saving cardiac care.
