IPAS Nepal organized a workshop on the intersection of climate change, gender, and sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) on July 30 in Kathmandu.

The event thoroughly examined the multifaceted impacts of climate change, emphasizing its disproportionate effects on women and marginalized groups. It highlighted how the climate crisis compromises women's sexual and reproductive health rights, including maternal care and hygiene. The discussions also underscored the indirect ways women are affected, supported by clear evidence linking climate change to adverse SRHR outcomes.

Participants explored the interplay of social and climatic norms, revealing that these critical issues often remain hidden in societal discourse. The event aimed to bring these challenges into the spotlight, raise awareness, and build actionable solutions to address the impacts of climate change on women's SRHR and broader societal well-being.

After rejecting popular false solutions, the discussions focused on addressing the root causes of climate change, like capitalism, patriarchy, and militarism, and called for climate action that is inclusive, rights-based, and intersectional.

Despite the significant impact of climate change on SRHR, critical linkages remain under-discussed and absent from mainstream discourse.

IPAS promotes a climate-resilient sexual and reproductive health rights system by advocating for inclusive policies and systemic reforms in climate action. The organization emphasizes strengthening local health infrastructure and expanding mobile services while actively engaging communities through dialogues and awareness campaigns.

The event concluded with an understanding of how climate change affects a large population and highlighted the urgent need to integrate this issue into broader climate and health agendas.
