National College conducted a Human Rights Education: Documentary Screening Campaign in collaboration with Human Rights Film Center (HRFC), marking International Youth Day. This event was dedicated to raising awareness about environmental challenges and human rights issues.
The screening featured a selection of two thought-provoking documentaries that shed light on the real-world impact of environmental degradation on the human livelihood of rural Nepal. Both films provided an examination of the intricate relationship between human rights and environmental protection, underscoring the urgent need for action and accountability.
Following the screenings, the atmosphere shifted from passive viewing to active engagement as students and college faculty participated in thoughtful discussions. This interactive session encouraged attendees to analyze the content of both documentary films critically, connect the issues to their own experiences, and brainstorm solutions that could be adapted both locally and globally. The dialogue highlighted the vital role of youth not only as observers but also as agents of change in the fight for environmental justice.
Participants left the event inspired and equipped with new perspectives, reaffirming the importance of education in building awareness and driving action. The campaign not only celebrated International Youth Day but also strengthened the community’s commitment to integrating human rights and environmental advocacy.
In a separate interview, Avash Rijal, General Secretary, HRFC, said, "Our journey began with a clear purpose: to promote human rights and reach out to youths through meaningful art forms. Today, we continue this mission by engaging youth across diverse regions of Nepal, using culturally relevant mediums like Deuda in Sudurpaschim to make our message resonate deeply. Looking ahead, we aim to strengthen our impact by linking art with research and collaborating with International Non-Governmental organizations (INGOs) and universities. Our ultimate goal is to stop violence, protect human rights, and ensure that everyone can enjoy their fundamental rights."
This impactful event stands as a testament to the college’s and the HRFC's dedication to empowering the next generation, ensuring that the conversations begun here expand outward, sparking positive change beyond the college auditorium.
By sharing valuable information and sparking inspiration, we aim to foster growth, innovation and brighter opportunities for future generations.
